Review: Hitec Spectra AFHSS 2.4GHz receiver and Optima 7 module (part 2)

Part 2: a look at the “scan mode” of the Hitec AFHSS system in operation and how it might be useful for those who delight in flying FPV models.

  1. Excellent review, glad to see the Frsky comparison, I have the Frsky DF combo with telemetry.
I like the spectrum analyser, what system is that? expensive?? I want to get a spectrum analyser that covers 5.8GHz ideally, as I use that band? for FPV.

Hi thank you for the fantastic reviews? you are doing. I try to watch them as much as doable to see what is new.

  3. Irene Fisher says:

@gsm1021 The *golden* rule with all RC gear in gasers is to keep every bit of RC wiring well away from the ignition system. If you have a servo, array or wire within 6 inches of any of the ignition wiring or the engine then you are significantly increasing the risk of problems. I see people who fit their throttle servo to the firewall and use a 3″ metal pushrod and I shudder. I see people who use a servo to operate a switch in the ignition wiring to act as a kill-switch? and I shudder.

  4. Kathryn Davis says:

@gsm1021 It’s worth noting that *all* 2.4GHz radios are affected to some degree by ignition noise. I helped make out another flier’s problems a few weeks ago — the left aileron on his gaser would sometimes go into the full-up position by itself, but only when the engine was running. He’d flown several flights before that day with no issue. When we looked, he’d recently went the receiver batteries closer to the engine — and RFI was getting into the array? lead. Not a Hitec radio either.

  5. Samuel Sanders says:

Hi, I had my plane crash due to RF from the? electronic ignition noise. I was using the Aurora9 radio system with a BME 50cc engine can you do some testing and see if you can duplicate the stoppage.

  6. Lisa Warren says:

Thanks for your awe-inspiring review, it has helped me heaps? with the choice of my new receiver. Cheers

  7. Kathy Gordon says:

i dont know the point in make so many videos? about this, and i dont know what you are saying.
    but i can english ^.-

  8. Harry Graham says:

that excellent but it will still defen the adjoin end of the rx on the model!?

  9. Hi can you tell us what software and hardware you use to take measurement of 2.4ghz??

  10. Kathryn Gordon says:

    Hello Sir,
that was a lovely review in 3 parts.? Any videos screening a lock out due to intereference ??
    Thanks for your efforts.
    Hemal

I ONLY KNOW ONE THING FOR SURE ” SINCE I USED HITECH AURORA SYSYTEM EVRY DAY I FLY MY PLANES I CAN STILL HAVE MY PLANES WITHE ME ON THE WAY BACK? HOME WIHE BIGE SMILE ON MY FACE , IT WASN,T THE SAME CASE WHEN I WAS USING THE CHINEES CRAB”.

  12. @xjet but it will still work near enough alright? I wish there was a frequency in the UK for really high power material, but to my knowledge you can’t? go higher than 100mw :(

  13. Donna Barnes says:

@vanepico Yes, it will place lines crosswise the? image.

  14. Louis Gibson says:

Will the FrSky interfere with 2.4ghz? video Txs?

  15. He answered the question of why it
only uses 1/2 of the spectrum – the
receiver uses the other half. Then he
forgot it at the end. It is excellent both the
receiver band and the? transmitter band avoided the interference. Still
    a excellent job Bruce.

  16. Elizabeth Black says:

Thanks Bruce. Was waiting to see what you had to say about the? HiTec system as looking at it for my potential entry in 2.4Ghz with my Futaba 9C. If you do ever hear back from HiTec about only using a third of the spectrum please let us know ASAP. Cheers.

  17. Roy Hill says:

Yes, it has failsafe and I also figured that for the price of a diode, being able to fall-back to the? servo-array would have been a excellent thought.

  18. fascinating tiresome to figure out the thought process that produced the questionable engineering and the workaround for the high reboot voltage by using a separate rx array. I’m surprised it doesn’t switch to the servo supply as a backup power source.? Does it have a failsafe facility?
It looks as though the designer aimed the system at larger models able to hold two array packs, with the intention of operating alongside on-board telemetry of some sort, in which case, it needs a failsafe?

  19. Does the hitec hop (in hop mode) once connected if it detects new interferance
    In scan mode ?

Is the frsky a fixed mode over the entire spectrum or is it constantly scanning and hopping? ?

My question come from the frsky being able to reconnect when the tx is turned off and on but the hitec will only recconnect in standard or fixed mode. turn off the tx in hopping mode and it’s all over no reconnect at all ever.

  20. Kathryn Bell says:

Thanks for the review , wonder if Hitec are only using 20 odd channels because of a processing time issue? Seems to be quite? a excellent system apart from the external fixed coax to the antenna.
Keep up the excellent work , you ARE appreciated for all you do for us for free.

  21. Bobby Crawford says:

lol@thunderstorm. Looking? forward to the flight review.

  22. Ernest Moore says:

wow is this in? real time?

  23. Helen Martin says:

Thanks for this review, being a new Aurora? 9 owner I was wondering how it faired, I was concerned about the band usage until you said you hit it with a lot of interference and it stood up to the test. If Hitec do answer to you the reason such a tiny part of the band is used, please post the comments, thanks

    that thunder was righton que!?

  25. Norma Wood says:

You really make it seem so simple with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I reckon I would never know. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

I was curious in the event you ever considered changing the page layout of your weblog? Its quite nicely written; I adore what youve got to say. But perhaps you can just a small a lot more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an dreadful lot of text for only having one or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out much better?
